A 35-year-old man from Niton has been charged with drink driving after he crashed his VW Transporter van into a parked van in Whitwell on Sunday night.
As first reported by Island Echo, Police were called to Kemming Road, just past the Church of St Mary and St Rhadegund, at around 18:20.
The incident saw a white VW Transporter – driving towards Niton – collide with a parked VW Transporter facing the other way.
Police attended the scene and arrested Gareth Chilcott, 35, of Newport Road in Niton, on suspicion of drink driving.
Now, it has been confirmed that Chilcott has been charged with driving a motor vehicle when alcohol level above limit.
He will appear at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on 6th December.

Bout time…unlucky my friend least you didn’t kill anyone, people be safe for year or so now
No surprise there then. No comments from the “blame the parked vehicles” fraternity.
To be fair Tony baloney if this idiot had parked on his drive then his van wouldn’t of been totalled by a drink driver!!
Funny wasn’t a family member arrested for drugs a few years ago obviously all tarred with the same brush.
About bloody time is all I can say. Police want to keep a close eye on which pub car park his other vehicles appear in over the next few weeks, on the run up to his court date. He could have & should have been caught on any number of 100s of occasions. Just one of life habitual abusers of the drink drive laws. Of which I doubt this looming ban will ever stop him. Shame some unsuspecting person has to go through the arduous process of having their lovely vehicle written off by this selfish drunk driving a skip!
Another drunk driver. There’s a surprise. Knowing the islands magistrates, the driver will get a small fine and a ban, because none of them ever completely ignore the ban do they?!
So many people complain about this. Do magistrates ever read our comments I wonder?
It would be interesting to see the statistics of repeat offenders, esspecially those that drink/drug drive whilst still banned.
I expect most magistrates are as bad has him…
What an complete and utter Idiot.
This 100% proves Seely’s idea of safety barriers and speed restrictions are complete garbage. I doubt very much a drunk driver would be capable of reading the signage, let alone obey.
