Police are in attendance at a road traffic collision in Whitwell this evening (Sunday).
The incident occurred at around 18:30 on Kemming Road opposite the junction with Bannock Road.
It has seen a white Volkswagen Transporter heading towards Niton collide head on with a parked vehicle – a grey VW Transporter.
The road hasn’t been closed and remains passable but recovery are currently on scene whilst the road is cleared.
Motorists are advised to be cautious when entering Kemming Road from High Street or Ventnor Road.
Island Echo understands that the driver of the white van has been questioned by Police. Further update is expected in the morning.
UPDATE @ 20:00 – Both vehicles have been recovered and the road is completely open once again.

Oops, see the VW was parked wrong way too, it’s a blind part of road forcing drivers on wrong side just to see oncoming traffic.
Hardly Vorsprung Durch Technik
I say it’s drug driving again
Every little helps
Probably Brayley on a drive
Haha class!
Another case of driving with out due care & attention!!!!
Just how many times do police see vehicles parked facing the wrong way on unlit roads and do nothing?
Let the little things slide and bigger incidents follow.
I am not sure its against the law to park facing on coming traffic, but just common sense on unlit roads. Awhile back I ask the transport dept they said it is not against traffic rules. In NZ it is unlawful to park against the flow. Makes good sense to me.
Dont know if it still stands, but I believe, years ago, you had to leave side (parking) light on if facing traffic flow
Are you parking your car the wrong way at night?..
In the Highway Code, rule 248 states: ‘you MUST NOT park on a road at night facing against the direction of the traffic flow unless in a recognised parking …… that’s why car’s have red reflectors at back, you don’t have white reflectors at front.
In Singapore you get fined for parking facing the oncoming traffic even in daylight hours
Good thing we don’t allow the death penalty for such things then, eh?
I blame the van driver, drug or drink driving again..
Great work Columbo!
Your welcome, thanks..
It’s “you’re”.
No it’s not…
Yes it is ! It’s short for ‘you are. If you disagree, go back to school.
Are you special needs?….
you were right
he was right though♂️
If the white van is the one I’m thinking of, then I’d be shocked if alcohol wasn’t a contributing factor. He has alway driven under the influence. Has 3 or more vehicles which obviously helps put the police off the sent once reported!
I’m surprised this hasn’t happened sooner, that section of road really needs better traffic management including yellow lines.
