Newport’s illuminated carnival brought bright lights, music and dancing to the streets of the Isle of Wight’s county town last night (Thursday).
Large crowds lined the roads through the centre of Newport as twilight gave way to a dazzling procession of illuminated floats, performers in LED-lit costumes and vibrant community groups glowing in the dark.
Following the traditional daytime parade held earlier in the month, this second event saw participants return with lighting displays that transformed the carnival into a spectacle of colour after dark.
Organisers have thanked all those who contributed to the success of both carnivals this year, highlighting the dedication of volunteers, the creativity of participants and the enthusiastic turnout from the public.
The Isle of Wight’s Summer carnival season now moves on to East Cowes tomorrow night (Saturday), moving off at 18:15.

The Newport illuminated carnival was good but I do feel the band’s in the i carnival very disappointing as i thought they were very quiet as compared to the Bournemouth band that where in the main Newport carnival as they were nice and loud you could hear them up the road compared to the Newport carnival bands you could not hear them until they were a few feet away from you
