Family Shopper – part of the Tesco group – looks to be heading to the High Street in Newport, replacing a fast food takeaway outlet.
Plans have been submitted to the Isle of Wight Council by a Mrs M Emmakulata to transform Frynation, at 84-85 High Street, into a convenience store.
A simple planning statement submitted to the local planning authority says that the proposed change of use will increase the economic activity for the benefit of the Island, and will increase retail employment – with 2 part-time and 2 full-time members of staff required.
It’s proposed that the new shop will open between 06:00 and midnight, 7 days a week and feature a beer cave and a separate soft drinks cave.
Until 2023, the premises operated as Newport Fish & Chips before becoming Frynation, selling chicken, kebabs, pizza, burgers, fish and chips and milkshakes.
Family Shopper – owned by Booker, which is part of the supermarket giant Tesco – is a brand already known on the Island, with a Family Shopper located on Avenue Road in Sandown. The shops are unconnected.

Tesco already have their own Express store along the
High Street.
