47-year-old Steven Tunney has been handed a 12-month community order after pleading guilty to 2 assaults, both of which occurred whilst children were in the house.
It was on 14th July last year that Mr Anthony Betts was babysitting a number of children whilst in the company of Tunney, of St James’ Street in Newport, and Mr Andrew Burton – with all 3 having consumed alcohol.
Tunney took a disliking to how Mr Betts was talking to the children, resulting in the 47-year-old becoming aggressive. Tunney punched Anthony in the face before grabbing him around the throat and trying to strangle him. Tunney then picked Mr Betts up and threw him into a fence in what was described to the court as an unprovoked attack.
Andrew Burton was also punched in the face.that
Defending, Mr Osborne said that his client – who had consumed half a bottle of cider – couldn’t remember the incident and was suffering from mental health issues at the time. Mr Osborne said that Tunney deeply regrets his actions on the day and has now stopped drinking having self-referred himself to Inclusion.
Tunney last appeared in court in 2007 on a charge of battery.

Tunney has played the mental health card in an attempt to blag his way out of any real punishment for being a complete B ellend.
What has not been mentioned or any of the three of them been charged for is drunk in charge of children, endangering the safety of children and causing children to suffer alarm and distress.
these clowns shouldn’t be in the same road as children, let alone baby sitting
Half a bottle and can’t remember anything? He’s either the worlds biggest lightweight or I call BS
Jeez that little boy can’t take his alcohol lol. Hopefully no lasting affect what the children may have heard or seen. Hiding behind excuses, pathetic. Grow up and take responsibility.
Where was the mother/mother’s ?
Down the pub probably.
Poor kids, I hope that they don’t grow up to be thugs.
the mother was probably at work or having a well deserved break, having left the children in the care of someone she trusted – that trust is gone – filthy low lives, what sort of men are they to look up to.
Dream on, she was probably down the council or down spoons.
I bet he couldn’t stop laughing as he left the court, as usual pathetic sentencing by out of touch do gooders.
