Newport Carnival will return this Saturday (1st August), bringing colour, music and entertainment to the streets of Newport as the town prepares for its much-loved Main Carnival.
The procession will set off from South Street at 19:00, travelling through the heart of Newport via St James’ Street, Trafalgar Road, Carisbrooke Road, Newport High Street and Quay Street, before finishing on The Quay.
Once again, thousands of spectators are expected to line the streets to enjoy an evening of community spirit and carnival excitement.
From colourful floats and walking entries to music, costumes and performances, this year’s carnival will once again showcase the creativity and enthusiasm of local groups, organisations and individuals who have worked hard to prepare their entries.
The procession will feature all the popular carnival favourites, including marching bands, samba bands, emergency service vehicles, tractors, HGVs, classic cars, schools, community clubs and carnival royalty from towns and villages across the Island, along with plenty more surprises along the route.
The carnival season got underway last week with Sandown’s Main Carnival, making Newport the second carnival of the season. Following the fantastic feedback from Sandown, expectations are high that Newport Carnival will deliver another memorable parade.
This year’s Newport Carnival float theme is Country and Western, featuring a traditional Saloon Bar design which made its debut at Sandown Carnival last weekend and will now make its way through the streets of Newport.
Organised by Newport Carnival & Community Events Association, the event takes several months of planning by a dedicated team of volunteers who spend their time organising carnival events for the community.

Spectators are encouraged to arrive from 18:30 to find a good viewing spot and soak up the atmosphere before the procession begins.
While there is no dedicated raised viewing platform, spectators can enjoy a fantastic view of the procession from The Mall on Carisbrooke Road – with organisers encouraging carnival goers to arrive early to secure a good spot.
The carnival relies heavily on community support, and donations collected during the event help cover the significant costs involved in staging the celebration each year. Visitors are encouraged to support the volunteer collectors along the route.
The carnival celebrations will then continue later in August with Newport Carnival’s Illuminated Carnival Procession on 20th August 2026 at 21:00, when the streets will once again come alive with light and colour.
