The Isle of Wight NHS Trust has made several changes around the St Mary’s Hospital site, which includes the introduction of social distancing stewards.
since the change in Government guidance around face masks and face coverings came into force on Monday 15 June.
Islanders who need to visit the hospital for an appointment, blood test or procedure will notice things are a little different to how they are usually.
A number of one way systems around the corridors have been implemented with the need to keep left to help maintain social distancing. A number of new signs, including floor stickers for the main corridor and some extra special ones for the Children’s Ward, have also been introduced.
The new ‘Social Distancing Support Team’, who will be wearing orange tabards, will also be on hand to help visitors.
Island residents are reminded that you will need to wear a face covering whilst inside the hospital.

Social Distancing Support Team? Seriously. They actually think they need to employ bouncers to keep people 2 metres apart. What do they do if someone accidentally strays, get him in a headlock? This, at a time when cases of Covid are dropping and even GPs are coming out of hiding.
Only 3 months too late! Why wasn’t this done at the beginning of the pandemic? Why was there no social distancing or ppe, to ensure the staff and patients were safe 3 months ago when the coronavirus was rife! Why was it ok for the staff to work in unsafe conditions!
perhaps they can tie the shoelaces of visitors seeing as they are treating them like children. Social distancing is an advisory from public health england, it is not law and therefore not enforceable.
Rumor has it that you also have to walk on the left! Every time I have been up the long corridor from the stairs by the main entrance to the North wing all the Doctors and nurses for some reason walk on the right!
Why wasn’t this done when this all kicked off, a bit late in the day, or do they know something we don’t.
Yet again, too little and too late, a bit like Cinderella arriving at the ball at 25 minutes past midnight.
What do they need these for there’s no staff or patients in there !
It is disgusting that people from Ryde have to go all the way to St Mary’s for a blood test. If you have no car, it is a slow expensive trip to get a bus to the sea front, then a bus to Newport, then a bus to Cowes. Then the reverse trip home.
Yet why close Ryde blood clinic. Why send the whole Island to St Marys, IF they are trying to stop the spread of CV having lots of ill and old people traveling unnecessarily is going to make the issue worse, not better.
And just ‘what’ are all these NHS staff doing? We have thus far only had small numbers in hospital with CV, yet most other treatments are on hold.
Can’t all be treating and mopping the brows of the few unfortunates with CV in hospitals, need sorting.
Request a blood test to be done at home, no need to go to St Marys.
Things will be so much worse when we have thousands more here to fill all those houses and flats they are building in Ryde. Doubt us old ones will ever get an appointment. Yet we worked all our lives. Seems unfair to me and bert.

Lol, you people still dont get it do you? Most of you still think it’s about a flu like virus dont you? And you would be right, they would have done this from the start. It’s about control! Now,can they control you( social distancing) without actually trying to bring in new laws. I think they already do.
mr justice..
A new Covid-19 ‘exposure logging’ tool has appeared on smartphones without users installing it – but it’s not the NHS contact tracing app.
The software showed up in the settings of both Android phones and iPhones as part of an update of their operating systems.
The ‘exposure notification’ tool is switched off by default, and is not a tracing app itself. But it enables an app to run in the background while still using Bluetooth.
This lets the app measure the distance between two handsets – and then alert the phone owner if someone near them later tests positive for Covid-19.

Thank you for info,I haven’t seen any news of this on line but I shall research.
