The doors to a new mental health and wellbeing centre in the heart of Newport will open on Monday (10th March), marking a major step forward in improving local health services.
This fully redesigned facility – formerly HMV and Poundworld – brings together mental health and community care in a space that is welcoming, modern, and fully accessible for everyone. The centre will bring together a wide range of health professionals, including Community Nurses, Physical Therapists, Community Mental Health Teams, and Psychological Therapies, all in one location.
Located at 62 High Street, the Newport Health and Wellbeing Centre will make it easier for people to access the care they need, with a focus on joining up services for both physical and mental health.
It was 4 years ago that the Isle of Wight NHS Trust was awarded millions of pounds to purchase the former retail unit to enable the creation of an integrated hub, bringing together mental health services, adult social care and third sector providers.
As exclusively reported by Island Echo, the community hub should have opened a year ago but the project has been hit by noise complaints.
The centre boasts a café area, 11 therapy and treatment rooms and confidential spaces to manage new referrals and private areas for remote consultations.
Ella Newham, Interim Assistant Operations Manager, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said:
“The improvement that the new Health and Wellbeing Centre will make for both staff and the patients we care for will be incredible. The centre is newly refurbished and designed to be accessible and inviting, it also increases our capacity to offer more space and improve community support in a comfortable, welcoming environment for all.”
Lucy Abel, Deputy Director of Operations, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, adds:
“This is a very exciting development for our community and staff. Health and care professionals will now be able to collaborate with each other in one location, meaning they can more easily work together to share professional experience and expertise which will enhance both staff and patient experience of care.”

Staff began moving in on Monday (3rd March).
Interestingly the number of new jobs created has not been mentioned but it all sounds good.
Is it friends of the hospital running the café or perhaps Costa or similar?
No jobs will be created as chantry house and a couple of other teams are relocating there
all to save money,the buildings that they use at the moment will probably be sold to the highest bidder
3 different teams in one building makes more sense,but not smack in the middle of the high street.
Watch out when you walk past that place then, there will be a large huddle of so called “mental health patients” outside puffing on fags and vapes, on the latest Iphones saying how great the place is. Yes there are a lot of people with issues I get that, but the vast majority are taking the p**s. There needs to be a much much better identification of REAL cases, to get rid of the bandwagon jumpers.

Should have been open a year ago,but someone realised that the air conditioning was too noisy!
so,its taken a whole year to rectify it,its cost over 2 million to stay shut in that year,all from NHS funds
