Passengers arriving in Fishbourne by ferry during the early hours will now find it easier than ever to reach their Island destination – thanks to a new late night service from Southern Vectis.
The Isle of Wight bus operator’s Route 9 will provide a drop-off for those sailing at 01:00 to Portsmouth. And there will be a bus calling in at 00:50 to pick up passengers using the 23:59 Wightlink ferry service from the mainland.
Southern Vectis’ General Manager, Matt Kitchin said:
“We know people’s travel plans don’t end on the stroke of Midnight – and we want to make it as easy as possible for those travelling between the mainland and the Isle of Wight late at night.
“The new service will form part of our winter timetable, running from Sunday 6th September. We’ve worked closely with Wightlink – following feedback from the ferry operator’s customers and this is an excellent example of integrated transport.
“Services will now make sure passengers have this extra opportunity to travel to the Fishbourne terminal, safe in the knowledge they’ll be able to complete their journey across the Island by bus – even at this late hour.”
The Route 9 calls in at Fishbourne at 00:34 on its way from Ryde. The return journey departs Fishbourne at 00:50 on the journey to Ryde.
Sean Millward, Wightlink’s head of business operations, said:
“I am delighted we have been able to work with Southern Vectis to help late night travellers reach their destinations on the Isle of Wight.
“This is great news for Islanders who enjoy going to concerts, films or other evening events on the mainland”.
