An official new weekly infographic is to be published — bringing together the headline coronavirus stats for the Isle of Wight in one easy place.
The simple infographic will be published on the Isle of Wight Council’s social media channels every Tuesday, starting from today. It is designed to give Islanders the most accurate seven-day information for the Island.
Residents, visitors and others interested will be able to check on social media how the Island is doing in terms of new positive tests and infection rates.
As well as providing a visual summary of the latest infection rates, the infographic will include a link to the Isle of Wight Council’s website at www.iow.gov.uk/covid19_data where a more detailed, weekly COVID-19 report will be available.
The infographic has been put together by the Council’s Public Health Team to give Islanders an easy-to-find and simple weekly update. This provides the Island with its own local weekly stats message to cut through the wealth of other sources of information and statistics being published.
Simon Bryant, the Island’s director for public health, said the figures would give residents an informative weekly view on whether the infection rate on the Island was falling or increasing. He said:
“Understanding the rates of coronavirus infection across the Island is essential for us to act quickly to manage any local outbreaks and can help people to take appropriate precautions.”
The new infographic will include:
• Number of cases to date — the total number of Islanders who have received a positive COVID-19 test result since March 2020
• Number of cases in the past 7 days — the number of local residents who have received a positive COVID-19 test result in the previous 7 days
• Weekly rate per 100,000 — the number of Islanders who have received a positive COVID-19 test result in a 7-day period, divided by the total population of the Island
The council is also planning to use its residents’ e-newsletter, where appropriate, for key information in the event of local outbreaks. To be able to receive e-newsletter updates visit www.iow.gov.uk/Council/Council-News/News/Subscribe-to-our-digital-newsletter.
Mr Bryant added:
“Washing your hands, maintaining a social distance of two metres and wearing a face covering in public places are the best methods of stopping the spread of coronavirus regardless of the infection rate.
“People can carry the infection without showing symptoms. By following this advice, and by getting tested and isolating immediately if you show symptoms, we can help to protect ourselves, our families and our Island community.”

does that mean there will a separate list for visitors
I very much doubt they will give us that information for obvious reasons.
Useless .no test exists for covid 19 .only corona virus of which there about 150 .just because you test positive for corona does not mean you have covid .
We need to be told of likely life changing conditions and ailments, NOT just who has died and who has recovered before deciding on whether to send our children back to school.
When your worried child looks you in the eyes on that morning asking “Do you think I will be alright Dad” how can we possibly answer without knowing all the risks?
Whilst children are less likely to die from CV, that doesn’t automatically mean that serious lung, heart, brain damage cannot occur through contracting this virus, and whilst the Government will care about the economy as well as peoples health, YOUR child expects you to put them before anything and everything else.
Just want the truth, whole truth and nothing but, to make informed decisions for my family.
Well if people just wore masks, face coverings they would be helping everyone else out by not spreading the virus. A mask protects not the wearer but the people they are near, so if everyone wore a mask, we would be protecting each other. I have no time for people who say “Oh I’m exempt!!” or “Oh I can’t wear a mask because I lose 20% oxygen when breathing!!!” No scientific evidence at all for that one, or “Oh I can’t wear a mask because I have mental issues!!!”, if you have mental issues, don’t go out if you are that worried.
you try wearing one with chronic asthma. Its bad enough with out one.I spose your one of them thats calls people selfish
How about ,I’m following government guidelines! You clearly havent a clue what your are talking about,do you? It’s such a deadly virus, that the government has made exemptions, ha ha laughable. Why? Because you all go along with this. But hey, I’m a nutty conspiracy person. Lol
New weekly fearmongering? Are we in Eastern Germany or the UK?
Totally agree mate, it makes melaugh when you hear parents saying they are worried of sending their child back to school but they wasn’t worried taking their kids down the beach and on holidays mixing with all and sundry.
