English Heritage’s new Chief Executive, Kate Mavor, visited the Isle of Wight yesterday (Thursday) to see first hand what is on offer for visitors at the organisation’s three Island attractions.
Kate has joined English Heritage from the National Trust for Scotland where she has been Chief Executive since 2009. Kate joins English Heritage Trust at exciting moment in the history of the organisation as it became a charity in April.
Bringing history to life for millions of people each year, the organisation cares for such important historic sites as Stonehenge, Dover Castle, and on the island Osborne and Carisbrooke Castle.
Kate Mavor said:
“It is a privilege to lead English Heritage. The charity looks after sites where significant moments in history happened. Individually and collectively these precious places tell a remarkable story.”
Kate had a whistle-stop tour of Osborne House in East Cowes, before a visit to Carisbrooke Castle in Newport and Yarmouth Castle in the afternoon.
