Nettlecombe Farm, a family-run farm with a history spanning over a century, is proudly celebrating 50 years in the tourism industry.
Owned and run by Jose Morris, three generations of the Morris family now help operate the farm, creating a unique destination that combines rural charm, memorable experiences, and exceptional hospitality.
Nestled in the heart of the rolling Isle of Wight countryside, Nettlecombe Farm offers nine award-winning, dog-friendly self-catering cottages, morning feeding tours, three coarse fishing lakes, yoga and pilates classes, educational visits for local schools and groups and discounted ferries through partnerships with Red Funnel and Wightlink.
The farm is home to a wide variety of animals that visitors can meet and interact with, including traditional farm favourites like chickens, cows, goats, and rabbits – as well as more unusual residents such as reindeer, alpacas, and even an emu.
The farm first opened its doors to visitors in 1975, when John and Jose Morris transformed the main farmhouse into a bed and breakfast with evening meals. What began as a way to supplement farm income, inspired by hosting students, quickly grew into a thriving tourism enterprise. Over the years, the farmhouse was converted into three self-contained properties – Oats, Wheat, and Barley – and major expansions in 2003 transformed the barns and stable blocks into additional cottages, including Wren, Wheat, Swallow, Corner Cottage, and Forge.
Jose Morris said:
“It’s so rewarding looking back on the past 50 years to see how the farm has developed and the joy and happiness it has brought to so many people and families. Largely down to the incredible staff we are so grateful to, who always go above and beyond to delight our guests. We continue to make improvements year on year and feel proud that families have been returning for generations.”
Nettlecombe Farm offers a unique combination of experiences, from morning feeding tours and fishing lakes to yoga and pilates classes. The farm is super dog-friendly and provides gorgeous rural walks while remaining close to the Isle of Wight’s scenic beaches.
Ray and Steve, long-time visitors to Nettlecombe Farm, said:
“We absolutely love Nettlecombe – so much so that we have visited over 40 times. It feels like a home away from home and an extended family. We’ve loved seeing all the changes and developments over the years and are so grateful to Jose and her team for listening to feedback and ensuring every guest has a wonderful experience. The staff genuinely care and it shows in everything they do.”
For 50 years, Nettlecombe Farm has been delighting visitors with unforgettable rural escapes, combining relaxation, adventure, and family fun. Jose and her family remain committed to continuously improving the farm experience, ensuring that every guest leaves with memories that last a lifetime.
