A large scale multi-agency search and rescue operation was launched in West Wight last night (Thursday) following reports of an unconscious casualty on the Freshwater cycle track.

At just before 23:00, emergency services received a 999 call stating that there was an unconscious male situated between Afton Road and Freshwater Causeway.

The Freshwater Co-Responder and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were initially dispatched to the area, but it wasn’t long before Freshwater Fire Crew were called upon for lighting. They also began a search using their thermal imaging cameras.

Efforts continued in very dark and difficult conditions for around 2-and-a-half hours but all agencies were stood down at around 01:25 this morning.

It is thought that nothing was found.
