The annual Movember fundraising event has seen men from across the Island growing their moustaches in aid of charity.
In recent years, males have been encouraged to put their shaver down when it comes to their top lip for a whole month during November and grow a moustache to raise awareness and funds for both prostate and testicular cancers.
Usually well shaven staff at Sainsbury’s in Newport chose to grow their whiskers in support of Movember this year, with Flynn Massey, Aaron Dowden, Harley Turner, Dom Spooner, Tom Monroe, Jamie Whaley and Dean Manning taking up the challenge.
Meanwhile, a team from the Isle of Wight NHS Trust have raised £110 through the official Movember fundraising website with the aim of changing the face of men’s health. Andy Hollebon, Stuart Browne, Dave Owen, Alex Hay and Russell Mew have all taken part in the challenge as an NHS team.
Over in Yarmouth, The Wheatsheaf manager, Adrian Evans (pictured above), has taken the unusual step of growing two moustaches! It is hoped that last year’s fundraising grand total of £650 will be suppressed and when it is, local historian and author Kevin Shaw will shave off his life-long moustache in The Wheatsheaf later on today (Monday).
For anyone shaving their moustache off at The Wheatsheaf this evening, there is a free pint of Fuggle de Dum on offer, sponsored by Goddards Brewery. For a bit of fun, Goddards Brewery and The Blue Crab Restaurant (Yarmouth) will be forming pool teams to have a little knock out competition with the pub staff.
