Motorists have been put at risk of coming head-to-head with oncoming traffic following the theft of batteries from temporary traffic lights across the Island.
Police are investigating reports that several dozen batteries have been stolen from numerous sites over the past few months – with over 30 being stolen in the past 2 days alone.
HSS Traffic Management have today (Monday) said that over £3,000 worth of batteries have been taken. The 12v batteries are used to power each individual traffic light head at roadworks sites on the Island.
Although it remains unclear as to why someone would want so many batteries, it is known they can be used for leisure purposes such as on boats.
Anyone with information relating to all or any of the thefts should contact Police on 101. Information can be given anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
