Community champion Jamie Hindson has continued his monthly pledge to support Isle of Wight charities by donating £100 to IW People Matter in Newport for November.
Jamie, 35, works as an SEN teaching assistant, community respite carer, activity coordinator in a children’s home and is also a well-known Island DJ. Throughout 2025, he has committed to making monthly donations to local charities and organisations that make a difference to people’s wellbeing, mental health, and quality of life.
This month, his donation went to IW People Matter, located at 1-2 Bernard Way, Newport. Jamie visited the charity and was welcomed by staff members Terri and Becky, who showed him around the centre and shared the services they provide.
Jamie has said:
“I was met by Terri and Becky who are staff at IW People Matter. They showed me around and I got to see the amazing work they are doing for their Christmas Fair which is happening on the 11th December from 11:00-15:00.
“They offer support to adults with disabilities, including a Learning Disability Support Centre focused on life skills, education and personal development. The centre gives people with learning disabilities a voice and helps ensure services are shaped around their needs.”
IW People Matter also runs Involvement Groups, where members can share goals and concerns, and a person-centred service known as PARES which supports individuals in choosing who provides their care. The organisation is also planning to offer training for disability support workers and personal assistants.
Jamie added:
“It’s been a privilege to meet and find out about all the organisations I’ve donated to this year. I’d like to wish IW People Matter every success in their future.”
Jamie’s past donations in 2025 include:
- January: Isle of Wight Hospice, Newport
- February: IW Better Days Café, Ventnor
- March: IW Care In The Garden, Wootton
- April: IW Daisy Chains
- May: The Holt, Newport
- June: The Way Forward, Newport
- July: Haylands Farm, Ryde
- August: MenOnlyIW, Ryde
- September: The Phoenix Project IW, Ryde
- October: Bodster, Shanklin
With his December donation on the horizon, Jamie’s community effort is set to continue into 2026, supporting services across the Isle of Wight that bring meaningful change to people’s lives.
