A missing person search earlier this afternoon (Sunday) had a positive outcome thanks to the efforts of WightSAR and Police.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary was alerted to reports of a high-risk missing person just after lunchtime this afternoon, resulting in the National Police Air Service (NPAS) helicopter being called into action.
Scrambled from RAF Benson in South Oxfordshire, the helicopter initially focused its search on the coastline between East Cowes and Fishbourne.
Boots on the ground soon descended on the Woodside Bay area of Wootton, paying particular attention to the area around the Little Canada PGL site.
At around 14:30 this afternoon, WightSAR – the Islands voluntary search and rescue team – were put on standby at the request of Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary before being called out at around 15:30.
The helicopter left the scene at around 17:00 before the search was stood down at around 17:25 with the missing male confirmed to be found safe and well.
No information about the missing person was given to the public.
