Police units and members of Isle of Wight Search and Rescue are conducting a search for a missing person on the outskirts of Ryde this evening (Friday).
WightSAR team members were paged at 19:25 to assist police in searching an area of open land in the vicinity of Bullen Road.
Several police units, along with the WightSAR Incident Unit, are positioned in a small car park near Pondwell.
UPDATE @ 21:30 – Island Echo understands that teams are looking for a missing woman, described as having white hair in a bob, around 5ft tall and wearing blue leggings with a cream blazer.
It’s understood she has been missing since around midday.
UPDATE @ 22:15 – The National Police Air Service helicopter from Bournemouth has been circling overhead, assisting Police on the ground. However, it has quickly been stood down and has now returned to base.
UPDATE SATURDAY – Hampshire Constabulary has told Island Echo that officers conducted a search for a woman in her 50s, after first being called at 18:15.
Following an extensive near 4 hour search, the woman was found in Ryde at 21:50.
