Firefighters are tackling a vehicle fire which has forced the closure of the main Newport to Cowes road this afternoon (Thursday).
A Mercedes convertible has gone up in flames at the side of the road near to the County Showground.
1 fire appliance from Newport is on scene with crews dowsing the car in water to bring the situation under control.
Motorists are being turned around in both directions with the road completely blocked.
UPDATE – The road has now re-opened in both directions.

If this was the one I saw driving home this afternoon then it had definitely crashed as the whole front end was caved in and the boot open. So I would say operators fault not manufacturers
