The body of a man has been found inside a property on Newport High Street, Police have confirmed.
At around 14:05 this afternoon (Thursday), Police were alerted to concerns for the welfare of a male at a residential address.
Officers attended the property and were concerned by their discovery, prompting detectives from Newport CID to attend the property.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was then called in to assist Police by gaining access to the property via a top floor window.
It’s thought that access via the front door was not possible due to the location of the body.
The death is not being treated as suspicious, and police will be preparing a file for the Coroner.
Newport High Street was closed for a time with a cordon in place, but has since reopened.
The body has now been removed by undertakers.
sounds to me like the person was trying to make it outside the building to get help and collapsed behind the front door – so sad – RIP
