A woman from Ryde has admitted to stealing a bizarre mix of items – including mangoes, scent boosters and milkshakes – during a string of shoplifting incidents at Tesco, totalling over £220.
26-year-old Mia Game, of Ryde, appeared before Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court earlier this month after failing to turn up to an earlier hearing on the Isle of Wight.
She had been due before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on 25th July, but failed to attend. A warrant was issued for her arrest, without bail, and she was later brought before the mainland court on 7th August.
Game pleaded guilty to 4 counts of theft from Tesco stores in Ryde, carried out between 30th May and 7th June this year.
Among the stolen goods were 7 healthcare and beauty products, 7 kiwis and mangoes, 4 scent boosters, 2 milkshakes, 2 packs of chicken tenders, 1 large bowl, 1 box of washing capsules, 1 cleaning product and various food items.
The total value of the thefts amounted to £223.03.
The court heard that Game was suffering from a manic episode at the time of the offences.
Mia Game was ordered to pay £179.09 in compensation to Tesco. No prosecution costs were awarded. A collection order was put in place requiring her to pay £20 per month starting from 4th September.

Some people are taking Tesco’s slogan
“Every little helps” too far!
She failed to attend court and had to be arrested and brought before another court. This all costs the taxpayer a great deal of money yet she has no costs order imposed. She may have been having a manic episode but she took the standard fare of the shoplifter so she wasn’t that manic. What is needed is a firm hand if this epidemic of shoplifting is to be kerbed – these people call it “shopping”.
Bring back the birch. For those who do not know what this is, I urge you to google it and read any stories of people that have received it.
