A Yarmouth man has admitted a host of offences including leaving an Isle of Wight pub without paying for his meal.
Martin Knight, 34, of St Swithins Crescent in Yarmouth, appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court last week (30th May) charged with possession of cannabis, resisting arrest, criminal damage, using threatening words or behaviour to cause harassment alarm or distress, making off without payment and theft from a shop.
Prosecuting, Lauren McConnell, told the court that the offences were committed during a 6-day period between 22nd and 28th May 2025.
The court heard how on the 22nd May, officers were called to an address where Knight was present. Once inside the property, officers found a small quantity of cannabis in Knight’s possession. When they were attempting to detain him, Knight raised his arm and clenched his fist.
To detain Knight, officers had to use PAVA spray.
Some 6 days later, staff at The George Hotel in Yarmouth were notified of a patron who needed to be removed because he was seen drinking alcohol that had not been purchased on the premises. When approached by staff, Knight said ‘Do your research to find out who I am’. Knight was escorted from the premises but came back before warning a member of staff ‘I’ll punch you so hard you’ll be in your f**king grave’.
On the same evening, Ms McConnell told the court that Knight left Yarmouth eatery On The Rocks without paying his £95.93 bill. When challenged by staff he simply said ‘do one’. Just a few hours later, Knight entered Harveys convenience store and stole a bottle of Jameson.
The court heard how Knight has a total of 41 offences on his record.
Defending the 34-year-old, Oscar Vincent told the court that the case would benefit from a pre-sentence report.
Magistrates granted Knight conditional bail until his next hearing at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on 15th August.
