A man in his 40s has been left with facial injuries following an assault in Ryde yesterday evening (Monday).
Officers erected a cordon surrounding a bench on the corner of Green Street and the town’s High Street at 17:28.
Blood splatters were evident surrounding the scene.
A 53-year-old man from Sandown has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
He remains in custody at this time.

That’ll be the local drunks hangout then!
You expect this kind of behaviour from younger people, but they seem to be getting older….
and of course it won’t have anything to do with the hostel nearby which is full of alco’s and junkies
So a judgment, based on no evidence, rooted entirely on prejudice? Get in the sea.
I walk past this corner most days. “isle of wighter” is spot on. Normal people can not sit there for a rest as it stinks of dope and piss. And the drunks sat there are thinking what of yours they can steal. Put them to work or put them out of our misery.
spider – stop being a blind do gooder, open your eyes and see the reality – that area is populated by dossers, junkies and p^^s heads, all the time – they drag theirselves out of the hostel, to the newsagents, stock up on a days worth of cheap cider and then sit there drinking it and arguing over rizla’s, baccy and all other trivia they can think up to fill their empty days.
Your right they should of not of had permission for the hostel in a town as it’s too easy to get drink
