A male has been pulled from the water after coming into trouble on his boat in Fishbourne.
Island Echo understands the boat overturned, with the male left clinging to the upturned hull yesterday afternoon (Thursday).
Victoria of Wight spotted the boat and the skipper in difficulty and immediately called a mayday, launching both of their lifeboats. A flare had also been let off in a bid to attract attention.
3 Rebel Marine crew members heard the shout and proceeded at best speed to reach the casualty – who had by now been in the water for some 20 minutes.
At the same time – around 14:45 – Coastguard Rescue Officers from Bembridge were called to the scene.
The male was taken to Royal Victoria Yacht Club in Fishbourne where he was transported into an awaiting ambulance and taken to St Mary’s Hospital.
A spokesperson for Rebel Marine has said:
“A great spot and assistance from Wightlink Isle of Wight Ferries master and crews. And thank you to Royal Victoria Yacht Club for letting us take the casualty into the clubhouse to warm up.”
