A man found to be doused in petrol was detained under the Mental Health Act in Ventnor last night (Thursday).
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary was alerted to concerns for the welfare of a male inside a property at around 20:00, with multiple officers responding to the scene in Ventnor Town.
It became clear to first responders that the male was covered in petrol, prompting resources from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service to be mobilised.
Emergency services – including the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service – descended on the scene and officers engaged with the man, with the situation brought to a safe conclusion.
It has been confirmed that the individual was detained under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act 1983.
