Police have confirmed that a man died onboard a Wightlink ferry on Friday.
Wightlink’s Yarmouth-Lymington service was disrupted for several hours on Friday afternoon following a medical emergency on board one of the ‘Wight’ class ships.
Emergency services responded to the Lymington terminal at lunchtime, with South Central Ambulance Service paramedics providing immediate casualty care to a man aged in his 80s.
Sadly, there was nothing that could be done to save the man’s life and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary was alerted to the incident with officers deployed to Wightlink’s Lymington terminal.
The man’s next of kin have been notified and a file is being prepared for the coroner.
Rest in peace to whoever passed away
Very sad news.
