47-year-old Wayne Morris, who was arrested by Police in the Sandown area yesterday (Easter Sunday), has been charged with murder.
Morris, of Larch Close in Bognor Regis, fled to the Isle of Wight on Saturday just hours after the body of 52-year-old Ruth Brown was found at an address in Collyer Avenue, also in Bognor Regis.
A major search was launched in the area of Los Altos Park with a ‘ring of steel’ put in place. Despite this – and the assistance of the National Police Air Service helicopter – it wasn’t until the following morning that Wayne Morris was arrested by officers from Hampshire Constabulary.
It is understood he was arrested in the Sandown area. It is unclear why he travelled to the Island.
Sussex Police have today charged the 47-year-old refuse worker with murder. He will appear before Brighton Magistrates Court tomorrow (Tuesday).
Ruth’s family have issued the following statement:
“Mum – Ruth – was a wonderful, loving woman and her loss, under such dreadful circumstances, leaves a gap in our lives that will never be filled.
“She was a mother, a daughter, a sister, well known, loved and respected by us and her circle of friends in Bognor and beyond. We ask that we be permitted to grieve in privacy and that justice for mum be allowed to take place in the proper way.”

I wonder if we had a UK vote to bring back public hanging it would come back as an overwhemling ‘Yes.’
So long as the accused was only hung once, most, except criminals and the weak minded, would vote for such.
Sadly though, they only have to show some sentimental hog wash on TV, such as ‘The green mile’ and the gullible public would turn on a sixpence, letting the ‘what if’ rule over the countless lives saved by people fearing such and the lack of repeat offences once freed or escaped. So society needs to break down first, which could well happen now.
