Police responded to the usually quiet area of St Lawrence near Ventnor last night (Wednesday) after a man was reported to be acting suspiciously.
Hampshire Constabulary was called at just before 20:30 to a report of a male allegedly behaving in a suspicious manner on Undercliff Drive.
Numerous officers responded to the area and spoke with a number of people in the area, as well as conducting a search.
However, nothing was located and no offences were identified as having occurred.
By 22:30 the incident had been brought to a close.

No news then. Great story IE.
Numerous officers !!, Blimey, where did they find them.
Well you were lucky to see a man after dark in St Lawrence it wasn’t big foot was it ha ha
Yeah it probably was. The people there are all weirdos.
Do you have the same conversations and scenarios in your head all the time? And just trot them out to fit any occasion? Your life must be riveting!.
I myself don’t live there but how would you no as you say that the people who live there are weirdos, put you brain in gear before you make a pathetic comment
that’s not a very nice thing to say. it’s true, but not a nice thing to say!
Yep I know who he is. A typical Ventnor Alcoholic or an island smackhead
Devise the theory and treat the absurd
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaawning even more loudly!
If you know this person let’s have the persons name, your pathetic get a life and get a job, as it sounds like you don’t have a job as I see your pathetic comments on here regularly.
The place is like ghost town
What’s going on here then?
A “suspicious sighting” triggers the despatch of “numerous officers”? Does somebody with influence live in the area? Nobody else gets that kind of response, even in daylight.
Perhaps it was a bearded enricher to gain that response one would assume.
IF so, best be on the safe side as after carnage it is too late. A lot are down on holiday here so ‘keep em peeled’
Could you be any more racist? Given your very obvious colossal stupidity, I sadly suspect that yes, you could.
It was probably an island driver who lost his car in a dich, or it could be someone who lost his rubber dinghy and wanted to go back to France when he saw the locals…
So plato, what is your own great thinking as to why several officers were called to apprehend just one person, who, as yet has not been shown to cause any crime, IF it were not something like the risk of a potential terror attack?
Or do you only come on here to ‘be offended’ if so, I suggest you don’t bother.
A perfectly reasonable assumption by the poster in the circumstances I would say.
Ello ello ello what do we have ere then a living person and how many police it took to discover that???
Never mind the suspicious man, look at the state of your roads and street lighting.
Thanks for the laugh. You are a jolly bunch. I do miss the island
Thanks, Carol. Here’s another laugh for you. Let’s hope Putin misses the Island too. When he aims for Portsmouth. I shall miss The Green Posts pub in North End. Regards.
