A male located in a precarious position on a cliff in the South Wight – with a several hundred foot drop below – has been rescued by emergency services.
It’s thought the incident began at around 12:50 this afternoon (Thursday) when concerns were raised for the welfare of a male.
Police descended on the village of Niton, searching high and low – including with the deployment of a drone.
Around 2 hours later, HM Coastguard and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were alerted to the ongoing situation.
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team and Needles Coastguard Rescue Team were both deployed. Initially, the volunteers responded to Niton Undercliff before relocating to the clifftop off Blackgang Road.
It was here that specialist rescue equipment was set up and a cliff man was lowered over the edge, to reach the male casualty.
Police took up position on both the clifftop and on Old Blackgang Road below.
The male at the centre of the incident was pulled to safety and passed into the care of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
