The skipper of Mighty Monk had gone for a sail from Warsash to demonstrate gybes to a friend from Finland. Unfortunately  well off Gurnard a rope from the yacht became wrapped around the rudder and propeller, leading to loss of power and minimal steerage.

In answer to a call from HM Coastguard, Cowes lifeboat was launched at 15:20 and towed the yacht, which also had a dog aboard, to Medina Yard, Cowes. The lifeboat returned to station about an hour later.

It was the second  ‘shout’ for Cowes lifeboat within 12 hours; in the early hours the lifeboat joined Island coastguards in a search of a person in the River Medina area, whose disappearance gave cause for concern. The person was eventually found unharmed by, it is believed, HM Coastguard.
