Bembridge RNLI were tasked to carry out a medivac from the Queen Mary 2 last night (Friday).
RNLB Alfred Albert Williams (Tamar All-Weather Lifeboat 16-17) was launched at 19:20 yesterday evening (Friday 23rd June) at the request of UK (Solent) Coastguard to medivac a passenger from the Queen Mary 2 that was off Cowes heading eastwards down the Solent having departed Southampton Docks earlier.
Sea conditions were reasonable so they were able to rendezvous with QM2 by 19:50 and effect a stretcher transfer of the casualty who, along with his wife, they then took back to Southampton Docks (Berth 21).
Having handed the casualty over to the Ambulance Service, the Alfred Albert Williams then returned safely to Bembridge and was re-housed by 22:30.
I hope the patient makes a full recovery – and that the couple had the correct insurance policy to cover them so that they can make the trip at a future date.
