An elderly man from the Isle of Wight is set to appear on BBC One’s documentary series ‘Ambulance’ tonight (Thursday), after suffering a life-threatening cardiac arrest outside Buckingham Palace.
The upcoming episode of the critically acclaimed show captures dramatic scenes as London Ambulance Service crews respond to a category 1 emergency in the heart of the capital.
The patient, 76-year-old Ron, from Shanklin, was visiting London with his wife, Meryl and son, Peter, when he collapsed and stopped breathing outside the famous landmark.
Fortunately, a quick-thinking member of the public began life-saving CPR before paramedics arrived. St John’s Wood ambulance crew Omar and Kez were among the 7 emergency resources dispatched. Their swift intervention helped restart Ron’s heart, giving him a crucial chance of survival.
Despite the initial success of CPR, Ronald’s condition remained critical, prompting a blue-light dash to hospital. Advanced paramedic Rory accompanied Ron’s wife in the ambulance and confirmed that the actions of the passer-by likely saved her husband’s life.
Island Echo is told that he is now back home and in good health.
The programme will air on BBC One tonight at 21:00 and will be available on iPlayer afterwards at www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m002df39.
