There are set to be major delays in East Cowes Town Centre from early January whilst works are undertaken to repair a damaged building. Between Monday 8th January and Friday 26th January 2024, Castle Street in the town will be partially closed with 3-way temporary traffic lights installed nearby. This will impact traffic heading for the Red Funnel ferry, as well as motorists using the floating bridge and entering/exiting GKN Aerospace. Ferry Road will be made 2-way up to Link Road, with temporary traffic lights installed to allow traffic to move safely. The 3 sets of lights will be installed at the junction with Link Road, the exit to GKN’s Falcon Yard site, and at the junction with Castle Street opposite the floating bridge.
The temporary arrangements are required to allow repairs to take place on a damaged building near the floating bridge, and with scaffolding needed to access the site, there is no option but to enforce a temporary road closure. Crown Park is overseeing the traffic management arrangements with the works to be conducted by WH Brading. It is hoped that the 2-and-a-half week closure can be shortened.
