A crash is causing delays on the main diversion route to Cowes this afternoon (Wednesday).
Emergency service personnel are on scene on Forest Road, having been called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and a motorbike at around 16:40.
The incident, which has occurred near Forest View Nursery has resulted in the road being blocked.
Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary are on scene alongside paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Island Echo understands that Forest Road has been closed between Gunville and Parkhurst Road. As a result all traffic heading to Cowes, due to the 1-way closure of Horsebridge Hill, is having to divert through Newport and along Gunville Road to re-join Forest Road.
One Island Echo reader has described the traffic on Forest Road as ‘bumper-to-bumper’.
Police have been contacted for a statement.

Another motorbike which I’m sure they will blame the car . During rush hour ofcourse. But hopefully they are ok
The problem with motorbikes they are impatient
instead of waiting they glide in and out of traffic
in ALL conditions.
They think they are cats and have 9 lives.
“THEY DON’T”
The island is a no go zone unless walking anywhere.
Road closures everywhere, not to mention the floods.
Roll on April
More bad driving on the Iow
Even though the weather conditions are horrendous
numpties are still whizzing around, many of them don’t
realise stopping in such conditions is different to when
roads are dry and stopping distances are different.
20mph is plenty, the sooner it comes the better.
There will be less accidents etc etc
What’s the rush!
Enough is enough I wish you would stop harping on about a 20mph speed limit you have no idea the problems that would cause on an island this big if you love the idea so much move to the Channel Islands and see the problems and traffic a 20mph limit can cause out there on a much smaller island I’ve seen it and it ain’t all you think it’s cracked up to be honestly you think you have the answers to everything and when you don’t you revert to calling everyone numptys when personally I think your the biggest one on island echo
