This is your weekly round-up of some of the latest court cases heard at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court.

Monday 28th November – Friday 2nd December 2022
• Andrew Christopher Taylor, 42, of no fixed abode, admitted breaching a conditional discharge. He was resentenced for the original offence – theft from a shop – by means of a £60 fine.
• Kian Debenham, 20, of Marlborough Road in Ryde, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He was handed a 12-month community order with 200 hours of unpaid work. He was ordered to pay £300 compensation.
• Connor Desbrow, 32, of Coronation Gardens in Shanklin admitted breaching the requirements of a community order by failing to report for unpaid work. He was dealt with for the original offence of using threatening/abusive/insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of violence. He was fined £1,250 and ordered to pay £60 costs. The community order was revoked.
• Kaylan Halliday, 26, of Sandown Road in Shanklin, admitted failing to comply with the requirements of a community order by failing to attend unpaid work and office appointments. The community order was revoked and he was resentenced for the original offence of criminal damage and taking without consent. He was handed a 12-week prison sentence.
• Andrew Taylor, 42, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to failing to comply with a section 35 direction excluding a person from an area. He was fined £40 and ordered to pay £85 costs with a £16 surcharge.
• Liam Hibberd, 32, of Oak Vale, Ryde pleaded guilty to 2 counts of criminal damage. He was fined £40 and ordered to pay £100 compensation, £85 costs and a £16 surcharge.
• Thomas Evans, 34, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to burglary other than dwelling – theft. He was given a 6-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £100 compensation.
• Harry Mortram, 20, of Clarendon Street, Newport pleaded guilty to assault by beating. He was made subject to a 12-month community order with 20 rehabilitation days attached. He was also ordered to pay £25 compensation, a £80 fine, £85 costs and a £114 surcharge.
• Todd Eldridge, 26, of Mountfield Road, Wroxall pleaded guilty to criminal damage and assault by beating. He was made subject to a 12-month community order with 20 rehabilitation days and 60 hours of unpaid work attached. He was ordered to pay £25 compensation and £85 costs.
• Lee Insley, 51, of Newport Road, Cowes pleaded guilty to using threatening / abusive words / behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress. He was fined £166 and ordered to pay £85 costs with a £66 surcharge.
• Robert Langley, 38, of Aspen Close, Newport pleaded guilty to assault by beating. He was made subject to a 12-month community order with 25 rehabilitation days attached. He was ordered to pay £200 compensation.
• Karl Stay-Sothcott, 57, of Star Street, Ryde pleaded guilty to assault by beating of an emergency worker and using threatening / abusive words / behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress He was made subject to a 12-month community order with 80 hours of unpaid work. He was ordered to pay £85 costs and a £114 surcharge.
• Ryan Bell, 23, of Sandham Close, Sandown pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled drug of Class A (cocaine) and Class B (cannabis). He was imprisoned for 2 weeks and ordered to pay costs of £85. The offence was committed during the period of a suspended sentence.
• Colin Thomson, 75, of Colwell Road, Freshwater pleaded guilty to failing to provide specimen for analysis – vehicle driver. He was banned from driving for 18 months and made subject to a 6-month community order with 10 rehabilitation days attached. He was fined £153 and ordered to pay £85 costs with a £114 surcharge.
• Gary Sparkes, 52, of Sunset Close, Freshwater pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal. He was made subject to an 18-month community order with a 120-day alcohol abstinence requirement, 35 rehabilitation days and 80 hours of unpaid work attached. He was ordered to pay £114 surcharge.
• James Johnson, 35, of Landscape Lane, Newport pleaded guilty to drink driving (61). He was banned from driving for 3 years, made subject to a 12-month community order with 20 rehabilitation days attached and ordered to pay £85 costs with a £114 surcharge.
• Gary Sparkes, 52, of Sunset Close, Freshwater pleaded guilty to drink driving (68). He was banned from driving for 36 months – community order to tie in with other offence.
Warrants for arrest issued
These individuals failed to appear in court on the specified date. A warrant was issued for their arrest. This list will not be updated as to whether the warrant has been satisfied.
• Sam Scott-Jackson, 32, of Green Street, Ryde, for 2 counts of theft from a shop.
• Todd Creighton, 39, of Furrlongs in Newport, for duty of person responsible for animal to ensure welfare.
