Hampshire Roads Policing Unit has been working alongside Isle of Wight Police over the past 2 days, identifying a plethora of motor-related offences taking place on the Island’s roads.
During proactive policing, a total of 77 offences were identified including the use of mobile phones, seatbelts, tinted windows and unsecured loads.
2 vehicles – a Ford Mondeo and a Volvo C30 – were seized by Bartletts after the drivers were found to be on the road with no insurance.
The most notable offence of the 2-day enforcement involved a VW Golf that was stolen from a driveway in Sandown. After around 12 hours the vehicle was located by officers on Bailey Close just off Bennet Street.
A spokesperson from Hampshire Roads Policing Unit has said:
” We saw lots of improvements seen with things like load security that were highlighted from previous visits.”

Enough is enough! A little speeding never hurt anyone! And you can go 10% one anyway, learn your rights.
Go get the real criminals claiming benefits.
Too true, meanwhile whilst this very-well publiced and ‘pro-active’ police initiative was going on, Billy Burglar and all the other real criminals were having a field day. Please try and deploy you resources more effectively !
For goodness sake, how do burglars get around. The stupidity of some comments.
You nailed it, Bram Stoker.
Sadly, stupidity seems rife on this Island amongst a vociferous (and very stupid indeed) minority. I console myself with the realisation that it’s not their fault.
Well done the Police for taking action and sorry you have to endure SO many idiots.
What a pathetic comment if people drove legally the police wouldn’t have to waste there
resouces on these scum
If you go 1mph over the speed limit they can fine you and get points. There is no 10% that is a myth
I think you are referring to the guidance from and of chief police officers it’s 10 % + 2, ie 30+10%+2 =35 and so on and twice the limit nearly always gets disqualified
If this is the case when are speedometers checked for accuracy? I am pretty sure they are not checked in the MOT.
I wonder if anyone found guilty when only1to3mph over the speed limit has gone to court.
No it isn’t a myth
Don’t ‘real criminals’ drive cars. Anyway what are you hiding Free Wighter if you’re innocent you’ve nothing to worry about, or have you ?!?
Please from your obvious vast knowledge of policing and enforcing these laws of the country enlighten us WHEN was anyone killed due to a benefit claim. Police Have experienced dealing with deceased motorists and riders killed by amongst other things including speed they have an excellent capability for catching speeders which usually leads to drivers under the influence of drink or drugs. The benefit agency have very efficient investigators who detect offence of fraud so hurry up pay your fine the moneys need for paying benefity
“A little speeding never hurt anyone”
Are you utterly insane?
Hit someone at 20 MPH, 90% chance they will live. Hit them at 30MPH, 90% of dying.
The speed limit is the max not the min.
Someone’s done a speed awareness course.
We should ALL do a Speed Awareness Course as part of the Driving Test.
Mind you, you can’t educate Stupid, can you?
Well at least we don’t have to use Sherlockian levels of deduction to deduce where the cretin is today.
Speeding kills. I see the aftermath of people speeding and other offences everyday in my job
Obviously you enjoy speeding, well in my opinion I hope a tree or wall jumps out in front of you… and NOT a child..
It’s good to see police doing there job,75 cars in a couple off days, but how come if u report a burglary it could take a few days for them to get there
Money collected from speeding fines goes to a Consolidated Fund, which is seen as the Government’s current account. This means it goes on general government expenditure.
Is this what you were looking for?
How come you report untaxed, unishured cars, car parked on pavement, unroad worthy, drunk drivers etc they do nothing . How many cars parked and drive wrong way by Dominoes, park blocking busses etc – police do nothing except pop in for own orders.
Completely untrue. Every time I’ve reported something, the Police have taken appropriate action.
No money in it for them
‘cos they’re too intent on pursuing easy ‘crimes’ (like a couple mph over the limit) that make money.. rather than tackling real crime, that doesn’t.
It’s a wonder I wasn’t stopped as I zig zag in and out to avoid the holes in nearly all the roads on the Island! Would have thought I was an alchoholic or a druggy.
Yet vehicles with NO MOT are driving around the Island and no one cares.
DVLA is ware
IW Council s aware
Island Roads is aware
My friend reported a small van that is parked along a Road in Ryde, it’s been there for
over 4 months now (does also get used occasionally)
RYDE DISTRICT STEWARD IS AWARE OF THE VEHICLE IN QUESTION AND IS CLUELESS
WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT!
Yet it is allowed to drive around and take up a space along the Road so tenants who are legal
cannot park their vehicles along the Road.
I also find such things frustrating.
We pay the wages for all of these Government employees and they
employ useless persons who do not have a clue about Law and Order.
The fairest way is to bring in Permit Parking, that will free up
Island roads for everyone.
Don’t we pay enough already, this council would use permits as a cash cow and everyone would suffer.
Nothing will get done about it.
The Island is run by persons who are absolutely clueless.
All of them are paid a lot of money for sitting on their ar*es,
even the Island MP does not care, he does not even live on the Island.
“Barbeques are his specialty, usually during a Lockdown”
Sadly there is no Law and Order on the Island

No Mot = No Insurance
What about all the vehicles driving around the island with
Number Plate characters spacing not being placed / displayed correctly.
Also all the vehicles pulling trailers with NO Number Plates on back of trailers
or they are displaying a different Registratron Number.
So many traffic offences on the Island.
Islandwide ANPR will solve the problem.
So many vehicles parked on the pavement in Regent Street Shanklin
on a daily basis.
That’s what the pavement is for!
It is for people to walk along safely,
not for brainless idiots to use.
When driving along many Roads, look in your rear view mirror and you will
more than likely see the driver behind you on their mobile phone
Texting etc.
Women are the worst offenders from what I have seen
Pleased to see they are doing this. As someone who actually has tax and insurance it pee’s me off when skanks don’t!!
What about all the motors driving around the Island with NO MOT
If they bump into you their Insurance will be void because they should not be on the road with
NO Mot.
Something the Island does not understand.

If you have a few moments take a look at a Youtube video of the “Isle of Wight takeover” car “event” The dangerous and illegal driving as they left Compton onto the Military Road beggars belief. It also highlights some spotty youth trying to pick a fight with some walkers who complained about his driving.
Not a police car in sight….
That was an event you moany old todger, better get the police on the finish line of the formula 1 grab those suckers for speeding!
Some tragic looking vehicles at that event. No wonder they are all wearing sunglasses!
I think it should have been mentioned that the Volvo that was seized was and elderly woman in her 70s and the police arranged a taxi for her. It just goes to show it’s not just young people that drive with no insurance.
They need to pout a working speed camera around the Ryde canoe lake, and a noise sensor, some are completely ignorant, and think its a laugh to speed up, and then let vehicle backfire, anyone sitting/walking along front with bad nerves could have a heart attack !! Dogs start barking and kids screaming from being woken up by ignorant drivers. lots of kids, lots of parked cars, and waterfowl , who is going to be the first driver to commit murder?? It is 20 MPH for a reason. yet those drivers will laugh at this comment, ignorant people, and the druggies smoking in car windows open plumes of smoke and that awful smell.. hope you get stopped and banned.. I am going to start taking photos of the smelly vehicles, with number plates showing..
