Firefighters tackled a 25 x 25m garden fire in Wootton late last night (Thursday).
Appliances from Newport Fire Station were mobilised to an address on Palmers Road shortly before midnight following reports of a large fire in a rear garden.
Once on scene the crews used hose reels and a main jet to bring the fire under control and extinguish the flames.
A greenhouse was destroyed by the fire.
The incident was swiftly brought to a close in under 45 minutes with crews leaving the scene at 00:40.
Yesterday, Tim Spencer-Peet, Senior Officer for the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service issued a reminder to Island residents:
“During this period of prolonged dry, hot weather can people be very mindful of BBQs, bonfires or any other ignition source, including smoking materials, to ensure they are properly extinguished.
“As we have seen from incidents in the north of the country, fire can spread extremely quickly in the undergrowth which is tinder dry”.
