Newport Conservative Club is to close its doors for the final time on Sunday (15th June), its committee has announced.
This is the second Conservative Club to shut down in the West Wight constituency after the East Cowes closed its doors last September.
The Committee for Newport & District Conservative Club have said:
“We have been advised by the Association of Conservative Clubs that it will be unwise to continue trading – the reason being continuing financial difficulties. It is with deepest regret from close of business on Sunday 15th June 2025, the club will cease trading.”
A meeting will be held at 19:00 tonight (Wednesday) where the club committee will be present to hear questions from its members.
Richard Quigley (Labour) won the West Wight constituency from the Tories in last year’s general election – the first time the Isle of Wight has been represented by a Labour MP.
Since the general election, the Conservatives have fallen behind Reform UK in the opinion polls, with experts predicting a Reform UK win were a general election to be called today.
I wonder how long it will be before Deform
will have a political club like all the other parties.
