Police have seized a large quantity of Class A drugs following the arrest of a ‘violently resisting’ woman in Shanklin at lunchtime today (Tuesday).
A 40-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and resisting arrest following a visit to a property at Butler Gardens off Orchardleigh Road, Shanklin at around midday.
During the arrest, the female suspect is said to have violently resisted resulting in local patrol teams responding to the area to provide backup.
The incident is part of an operation to tackle drug-related harm and anti-social behaviour, entitled Operation Wisteria. Using Police powers and with the support of Southern Housing Group and Mick Halliday from the Isle of Wight Council, Hampshire Constabulary conducted 3 room and person searches at both Butler Gardens and at Sandham House in Sandown today.
The seizure of a large number of drugs and the arrest of an individual is said to be the culmination of a fantastic collaboration between the Police, Southern Housing Group and the Isle of Wight Council.
Over the past 3 weeks, Police have issued 3 Community Protection Notices and an Anti-Social Behaviour Premises Closure Warning in attempts to tackle the issues highlighted by the local community.

Well done to our police, clean this filth off our streets….
Sandham House. An HMO Dwelling. Poor woman, homeless, my ars*. This is the type of person who gives these places a bad name. Selling Class A drugs. We don’t want anymore of these shelters full of druggies and alcoholics, especially when the council allow them to open right in the middle of residential streets.
Saw the start of this yesterday around midday, was a family issue. I stood between them and tried to sell a TV lol
I’m glad that something is being done i came from London and it was bad there i hope it doesn’t get like that over here
Get rid of these nasty people.
And the court will give her a tap on the wrist. Take her assetts – all of them – and then lock her away
She won’t have any assets. It’ll be “poor me – on benefits – have a hard life – someone abused me once” blah blah. Pees me off to be honest. I have compassion for anyone who has fallen on hard times and I don’t like to negatively judge people BUT…I work full time, have had hard times and struggle. I question HOW these people can always afford drink, drugs, cigarettes and designer gear clothes? And seemingly are NOT appreciative of the given roof over their heads!!!
Catalogs and payday loans that never get paid back I guess…
Orchardleigh road lot of people being arrested in this area, is this now a centre point for crime
Perhaps they should target school street in ryde, plenty of drugs, dealing and anti-social kids around there… shame a few ruin in for the rest of the residents
