Sections of the protective boards installed along Lake Cliffs are to be removed after the Isle of Wight Council confirmed some areas are no longer providing the protection they were designed to offer.
The Isle of Wight Council’s Environment and Coast Team has been monitoring the condition of the boards, which were originally installed to help reduce weather-related erosion and protect the coastline.
The local authority says some sections have now reached the end of their lifespan, while erosion in certain areas has progressed beyond the boards, making them ineffective.
Contractors are set to begin removing the affected sections in the coming weeks.
Despite the works, the council has stressed there is no immediate danger to the public.
Residents and visitors are, however, being reminded to keep a safe distance from the base of cliffs and to take extra care in areas where there has been recent movement.
The council thanked the public for helping to keep everyone safe by remaining aware of the risks associated with the natural coastal environment.
