KAYAKER RESCUED FROM THE ROCKS AT FRESHWATER

UPDATED: A stranded kayaker has been rescued following a joint operation between Freshwater Lifeboat, The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team and Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team.

Emergency services swung into action shortly before 17:30 when Solent Coastguard received reports of a kayaker stuck on the rocks close to Freshwater Bay.

Although uninjured, the man was unable to safely make it back to shore.

Coastguard officers from The Needles and Ventnor were tasked to assist but it was an evacuation by sea that proved the key.

Freshwater Independent Lifeboat’s inshore lifeboat was launched and, under the guidance of 2 crew members, was able to retrieve the man and take him back to the safely of the boathouse.

It’s there that HM Coastguard were able to debrief with the casualty about his predicament.

UPDATE – The man has been taken to St Mary’s Hospital by a family member.

The incident has now been brought to a close.
