An Isle of Wight woman living with incurable Stage 4 cancer is set to take on a 56-mile cycling challenge in Scotland this September to raise money for Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer and Cancer Research UK.
Victoria Coles will be participating in the Tour de 4, a charity bike ride established by Olympic champion Sir Chris Hoy to raise awareness of Stage 4 cancer and challenge perceptions of the disease.
Taking on the event’s red route, which spans 90 kilometres (56 miles), Victoria aims to raise vital funds for two organisations that have played a crucial role in her cancer journey.
First diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, Victoria underwent a series of treatments including surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. After a brief period of remission and the birth of her daughter, she was told in 2022 that her cancer had returned and metastasised to her liver, spine, hips, ribs and collarbone.
Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer has provided her and her family with unwavering support from the beginning. The group has not only offered care and advice, but also friendship and opportunities – including singing in their choir.
Victoria has said:
“Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer have taken me under their wing from day one and made sure myself and my family are looked after, allowing us to make memories together. They are simply amazing ladies!”
“Without Cancer Research UK, I wouldn’t be on the medication I currently am. Their research is helping us cancer bods stay alive a lot longer than the prognosis’s.”
“There is so much more to Stage 4 than dying. There’s still hope, life to live and mountains to cycle!”
