An Isle of Wight Sea Scout group is gearing up for an ambitious cycling expedition to France as part of a unique project to commemorate 80 years since VE Day.
On the 27th May, 1st Brighstone Sea Scout Group will be sending 12 Scouts and leaders across the Channel for a historical journey on 2 wheels, visiting key sites connected to the Second World War. The cycling trip will take in the D-Day beaches, Dead Man’s Corner Museum, the British Memorial, the 360 Cinema and Pegasus Bridge.
The multi-day ride is designed to immerse the Scouts in the history and legacy of World War II, combining physical challenge with hands-on learning. The cycling experience is the centrepiece of a wider group project that has seen the Scouts transform into a mock ‘army’ to explore the war in depth.
In the lead-up to the event, the ‘privates’ will undertake missions, deliver presentations, and wrap up their efforts with a community celebration buffet.
A spokesperson has said:
“This is an amazing task and we would really appreciate help to make this a safe trip to remember. Any donation, big or small, will be much appreciated. Thank you.”

“ISLE OF WIGHT SEA SCOUTS TO CYCLE TO FRANCE”
well if they’re going to Cycle TO France,.. it’s just as well they’re SEA Scouts….
(personally, I find it drier & less effort to take the ferry)
They should go by dinghy, after all they are
sea scouts.
