The Isle of Wight Police Cadets group are looking to recruit more young people this coming Autumn, with teenagers aged 13-17 being encouraged to sign up.
The Volunteer Police Cadets scheme gives young people the opportunity to attend various camps and expeditions and take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, as well as undertaking Public Order, team-building and search exercises.
The scheme also gives teenagers the chance to be involved in local, regional, national and international policing and community engagement events. For example, cadets from other forces have travelled to countries like Bolivia and Bulgaria to assist in setting up youth engagement schemes.
Cadets are expected to attend one weekly session for two hours per week and volunteer for a minimum of three hours per month in policing and community initiatives. There is no cost to become a Volunteer Police Cadet, as all the weekly sessions and uniform is provided free of charge.
An information evening is being held on Wednesday 16th September from 18:00 – 20:00 for all interested parties. The evening is being held at Ryde Cadets HQ at the Ryde Academy Post 16 Centre on Playstreet Lane (former Haylands Primary School).
For more information in the meantime contact Matt Wilford of the Ryde Neighbourhood and Prevention Team on [email protected].
