An Isle of Wight carer has raised over £1,200 by shaving her head to support the Daisy Ring Bus – a donation-funded transport service that helps cancer patients travel to mainland hospitals for treatment.
Karen Lowe, a dedicated local carer, braved the shave on Wednesday 20th November to raise vital funds for the Daisy Bus. The service is a lifeline for patients travelling from the Isle of Wight to receive cancer care across the Solent.
Karen initially set out to raise £1,000 – enough to fund a memorial plaque in memory of one of her former clients, who heavily relied on the service before sadly passing away. That target has now been surpassed, with donations currently standing at £1,280.
The cause is also close to Karen’s heart due to her close friend, Lorraine Roser, 56, who is currently undergoing treatment for ovarian cancer. Lorraine regularly uses the Daisy Bus to attend chemotherapy appointments in Southampton.
Lorraine has said:
“Living in Southampton, I know how hard it is for those on the Isle of Wight to travel for care.
“The Daisy Bus is an invaluable service – entirely self-funded and run by donations.”
Karen’s fundraiser remains open for a few more weeks, with hopes of increasing the final total even further.

A big well done to Karen.
I must keep saying US Islanders all pay for
the NHS services and it is not our choice or
fault that the island NHS chooses to offer
very few services.
Therefore the service required should be funded
by the Isle of Wight NHS
I am sure both island politicians would agree!
Well done to you brave one ,what you have raised it truly brilliant
Good for you Karen for rasing all that money for a good cause.
