Residents and staff at 2 Isle of Wight care homes enjoyed magical ‘Alice in Wonderland’ tea parties this week, complete with colourful decorations, tasty treats, and live music.
At Vecta House Care Home in Newport, the garden was transformed into a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party with fine china and ‘curiouser and curiouser’ decorations. Residents tucked into cakes, sandwiches, and strawberries and cream while Paula Johnson provided musical entertainment that had everyone dancing and singing. Staff dressed as characters from the classic tale, while residents wore marvellously mad hats.
Tanya Everson, Lifestyle Leader for Vecta House Care Home said:
“We truly tumbled down the rabbit hole today, and it was a magical experience for everyone.
“It’s events like these that are vital for bringing joy, fostering community, and creating unforgettable memories for our residents.”
Meanwhile, Orchard House Care Home residents enjoyed their own Mad Hatter’s Tea Party with themed decorations and treats. Musician Paulo got everyone clapping, singing, and dancing along.
Katie Schlepp, Head of Lifestyle at Orchard House Care Home commented:
“Our residents had an absolutely fantastic time.
“There was such a buzz of excitement – from the costumes to the food, and of course the dancing. It’s these moments of joy and togetherness that mean the most.”
Both events are part of the homes’ commitment to creating meaningful experiences and vibrant communities for residents on the Isle of Wight.

Well done to everyone involved, keep up the
good work.
I have no personal axe to grind but rather ask entirely out of curiousity, why does almost every reference to a care home event on the Island centre on Orchard House Care Home. I am delighted that the residents there enjoy so many events but the home seems to attract a disproportionate level of publicity. No doubt the free advertising is a boon to the proprietors…
