Derek Ness, a wind turbine designer from the Isle of Wight, is taking on a 60km cycling challenge this September in support of Macmillan Cancer Support – and has already raised over £2,600 of his £3,000 target.
Diagnosed with Stage 4 prostate cancer 2 years ago, Derek – Managing Director of local firm Applied Polymer Developments – is currently responding well to treatment and says he is focused on making the most of life.
Inspired by Olympic cyclist Sir Chris Hoy, who is also undergoing cancer treatment, Derek has signed up for the Tour de 4 event to raise funds and awareness.
The race takes place on Sunday 7th September 2025, and Derek has chosen the ‘Blue Course’, a 60km route that he has been training for over the past 20 months.
Derek has said:
“I don’t know if you were aware, but I was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer 24 months ago. The good news is that I am doing well with the treatment and enjoying my life to the full.
“When I heard about Chris Hoy’s Tour de 4 bike race to raise money for cancer, I thought I’d give it a go – as we are both in the same boat. I’m raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support, and every donation will help.”
So far, Derek has raised £2,625 towards his £3,000 goal, with all funds going to support Macmillan’s vital work across the UK.
