Police on the Isle of Wight are probing a suspicious incident in Ryde in which an 11-year-old boy was approached by a man who attempted to coax the youngster away from his home address.
At around 16:15 yesterday afternoon (Thursday), the boy was playing in the Tandy Close area of Ryde, near to Ryde Academy, when he was approached by an unknown male.
Island Echo is told that the man tried to encourage the 11-year-old boy to ‘look at something’ around the corner in Pell Lane.
Thankfully, a watchful eye from the boy’s mum spotted what was going on and prevented the situation from having a very different ending.
The man is described as being IC6, aged 50 to 60, unclean and dirty in appearance wearing jeans and a cap. He had a piece of wood with him and a crutch.
Thankfully, the boy was not harmed during this incident.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that the local Neighbourhood team are in the area conducting enquiries and will be speaking to local residents.
Needs the boys father (if known or still around) to deal with this imo.

Might of been inocent and wanted to show him a bird nest,dead animal etc why didn’t mother ask ?. He was 11yrs old not 5yr and if frightened by the man just scream, run off etc. Similar report few weeks back but turned out to be lieing by child, that could of put people at risk . I agree the coppers should give a plain language description, if they want the public to understand.
