A woman who suffered a back injury whilst on board a yacht and, as a result, was struggling to breathe, was aided by Cowes RNLI, local Coastguards and the ambulance service this morning (Saturday).
It was just before 07:20 that Solent Coastguard received reports that a woman had fallen heavily on the tiller of a yacht in the vicinity of Cowes Harbour.
The yacht eventually went alongside Trinity Landing where the lifeboat crew provided first aid and helped to convey the woman to an ambulance, for onward conveyance to St Mary’s Hospital.
Bembridge and The Needles Coastguard Rescue Teams also responded.
Cowes Lifeboat was again launched at 09:44 when a Rescue Responder Alert was activated in the Solent. A thorough search was made of the area, where a yacht race was underway, without locating the source.
