Parents are being invited to an information evening at the Isle of Wight Crematorium which focuses on future plans for the memorial garden including the born too soon area.
The purpose of the evening, which is being held from 18:00 next Thursday (5th June), is to give parents a brief history and purpose of the garden of remembrance and future options for improving and managing the area.
It will also outline current management and maintenance responsibilities and any issues that have been identified.
This event follows the news that parents were having to collect possessions left at graves from black bin bags after the Born too Soon area was cleared.
Councillor Phil Jordan is the Executive member whose portfolio includes the crematorium. He said:
“There have been reports in the local media recently about the memorial garden and there have been lots of rumours and inaccurate information about what the future plans are.
“It is important parents have the opportunity to speak directly to the staff and management at the Crematorium about the plans for the garden and to raise any concerns they may have.
“The purpose of the evening is to outline what will be happening at the crematorium and how families can get involved and help shape its future. I would encourage anyone who has loved ones laid to rest at the memorial garden to come along to the evening so the council can discuss the proposals and show families how they can take part in any consultation.”
